Selecting the right wire mesh material is essential for high-temperature applications such as heat treatment furnaces. While SUS310S stainless steel is widely used as a heat-resistant material, nickel mesh and Inconel mesh can provide significant advantages depending on the application.
One of the key differences is oxidation resistance. Although SUS310S offers good heat resistance, it tends to generate more oxide scale than nickel or Inconel during prolonged exposure to high temperatures. Nickel mesh and Inconel mesh significantly reduce the formation of oxide scale, making them ideal for applications where high product quality is required.
For example, when workpieces are placed directly on a mesh tray inside a heat treatment furnace, oxide scale generated from the mesh may transfer to the surface of the workpiece. This can affect the appearance and quality of the finished product. By using nickel mesh or Inconel mesh, the transfer of oxide scale can be significantly reduced, helping to maintain a cleaner product surface.
Nickel, however, has one characteristic that should be considered. At elevated temperatures, it becomes relatively soft and may stretch or sag under its own weight.
